The selection process for our Riserva first starts in the vineyard. Specific parcels from our oldest vineyards (35-60 years old) are recognized for their high quality and concentration. This selection for Riserva is only done in the very best years to ensure a Riserva that is structured and has long aging potential.
Once certain parcels are selected, the best clusters are sorted in the winery before being crushed and aged on the skins for at least 15 days. The wine is aged for four years: three in Slavonian oak casks of different sizes, and then one final year in bottle. This produces an elegant, refined Gattinara that has stunning notes of tart cherry, dried herbs, and a balance of acidity and structure that denote tremendous cellaring potential for many years.

See below the review from our most recent released vintage, 2013. “Focused and loaded with finesse, this wine opens with aromas of rose, wild herbs, camphor and a whiff of dark spice. The bright palate offers precision and youthful tension, delivering sour cherry, cranberry, licorice, orange rind, and iron notes alongside fine-grained tannins and vibrant acidity. Drink 2021–2033.” 95 points, Top 100 Cellar Selections, Kerin O’Keefe, Wine Enthusiast
