This vineyard is located on the border of the 1er Crus Argilats and Bousselots in the northern part of the appellation. A 0.40 ha plot planted in 1962, its style reflects the finesse of Vosne-Romanée with the structure of Nuits-Saint-Georges. The two levels of soils -- a topsoil of clay and a deeper limestone composite -- give two layers to the wine, which is often elegant in the beginning leading to tension and freshness at the finish.
The grapes are harvested by hand with 40% whole cluster fermentation. As with all of our wines, minimal intervention occurs during the delicate 3-week fermentation process. Aging is then done for 18 months in 40% new French oak barrels. This is a very brambly red berry wine with subtle earth and fine tannic structure.
90-92 Points, Neal Martin, Vinous Media: “The 2018 Nuits Saint-Georges La Charmotte has a charming bouquet of light red cherries, raspberry and orange zest, really approachable and yet nuanced. The medium-bodied palate offers grainy tannins and feels fresh and sapid, the whole bunch (40%) nicely integrated. A dash of black pepper appears on the finish. Very fine.”
