From the Lieu-dit of Lancement on the Côte Blonde side of the hill comes this very special wine we have been producing since 2001. Composed heavily of gneiss, this slope contains vines that average 40 years old. For this bottling, we select grapes only from the oldest vines in the vineyard. The vineyard is manually harvested and grapes are sorted meticulously once in the vineyard and then again on the sorting table. This 100% Syrah is produced with 100% de-stemmed fruit, all native yeasts and aged for 20 months in French oak barrels.
98 points, Jeb Dunnuck – “As always, the 2016 Côte Rôtie Lancement has the most complex, exotic, singular bouquet in the lineup. Massive notes of dried rose petals, black raspberries, passion fruits (there’s almost a tropical edge), and exotic flowers all literally soar from the glass, and it continued to evolve and change as it sat in the glass. Medium to full-bodied, silky, and seamless, it’s all about elegance and nuance, while not lacking in intensity or depth. It will benefit from 2-4 years of bottle age and cruise for two decades.”
