Nascetta is an incredibly distinctive grape variety that speaks to the traditions and soils of our area. The grape is native to northern Italy’s Langhe region and dates back to the 1800s. This semi-aromatic white was historically used for blending, since the style and flavor profile added notes similar to those of wines of the Rhein in Germany. It was nearly lost completely when producers began removing and replanting it with the more profitable varieties of Barbera and Nebbiolo. In the 1990s a group of producers joined together to give it a rebirth, and today a handful of estates in Piemonte produce a Nascetta wine.

Our own history with the grape started in the early 2000s. We wanted to produce a white wine, and sought something that was part of our heritage. So we selected and planted Nascetta, and our initial bottling took place in 2009. Our vineyards are north facing, which ensures the right amount of acidity, minerality, and freshness, particularly important in the warm 2018 vintage. I named this wine 'Borea' after the God of the Northern Winds; having been was greatly inspired by the intense gusts that blow through this vineyard, it seemed to be a very appropriate homage.

Our Nascetta Borea is released two years after vintage after aging in a cement tank for one year. It is continually stirred on its lees for at least 18 months, developing refinement and freshness. That, mixed with its natural acidity, gives it excellent aging potential.
