Vino Nobile was the first wine of the estate in our inaugural vintage of 1968. It has long been the calling card of our winery and represents the ancient bond between land, man and culture. The wine is a blend of 95% Prugnolo Gentile (our local name for Sangiovese) with 5% of Colorino, Canaiolo and Merlot. The vineyards from which we harvest for this wine range between 300-450 meters above sea level in silty-clay soils that have a good presence of stony topsoil. The grapes are hand-harvested with a further selection in the cellar by optical sorting. As with all of our wines, we ferment delicately, with the Vino Nobile spending 15-20 days in conical steel vats. The wine spends 14-16 months in wood, ⅔ of which is done in French oak barrique and tonneaux with the remainder in wood vats. Even as this wine is beautifully fresh and approachable in its youth, it has spectacular aging potential of up to 15 years.

#54 - Wine Spectator Top 100 of 2019
92 points, Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator - “Bright black cherry, plum, earth, vanilla and toasty oak flavors are the hallmarks of this well-crafted red. Balanced, this needs a year or two to integrate more fully and extend the finish. Firm grip. Sangiovese, Colorino, Canaiolo and Merlot. Best from 2021 through 2033.”
