After years of continual experimentation, in 1983 we identified the Asinone vineyard as one of our highest-quality sites and deserving of a single cru bottling. The Nobile “Asinone” represents the highest expression of our production and the most accomplished synthesis between tradition, territory, and enological innovation.
Asinone is a wine of 100% Sangiovese from grapes across this 12 ha vineyard. The vineyard sits at 350-400 meters above sea level in very dense clay soils with stony, silty layers. The selection of this wine is quite rigorous, with intense sorting by hand in both the vineyard and the cellar before a long, slow and delicate fermentation of 20-25 days in stainless steel vats. The aging process for Asinone is done in French oak tonneaux for 16-18 months before resting and bottling. Asinone is one of the most collected wines of Montepulciano as it expresses power and structure upon release and continues to age and gain complexity for 20 or more years in your cellar.

94 points, Kerin O’Keefe, Wine Enthusiast - “Aromas of ripe black-skinned fruit, menthol and French oak form the alluring nose. On the firm, full-bodied palate, tightly knit, close-grained tannins accompany ripe Marasca cherry, orange zest, roasted coffee bean and star anise. It's densely structured but also has a weightless vibrancy. Drink 2023–2029.”
