Classically, this wine is a blend of predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon (~75%). The remainder is made up of up to 20 rare, indigenous grape varieties that give this Rouge a profile unlike any wine in the world.
The soils of the Gassac Valley, full of red glacial deposits, add unique notes to the potential for this wine with each vintage. The wine sees a classic “Medoc” vinification, with long fermentation and maceration of at least 20 days in stainless steel, before transfer to oak barrels. The aging process ranges from 12-15 months and is done so in 1-7 year old French oak.
2020 was a vintage of exceptional stature and quality. The grapes benefitted from serene weather throughout the year, starting with a cool spring leading into necessary rainfall right before flowering. This created a great fruit set that gained wonderful concentration by the hot, but not scorching, summer heat. As we turned to our harvest season, the acidity and fruit-profile in the grapes were intense and balanced, perfect for Cabernet development. This is a vintage of fine tannins and tremendous aging potential. 2020 is a true vintage to discover made of velvet and silk!
