This very drinkable Super Tuscan wine is one we do not release to our mailing list every year. It is an incredibly versatile, easy-drinking wine that showcases the vibrancy of our younger vines and our expertise in blending both Bordeaux grape varieties and Sangiovese.
The 2018 vintage finally presented the cold weather needed to allow the plants a proper resting phase before the growing season. Spring started with higher temperatures and rain as summer started. This gave caution to our team for potential issues with new shoots, but we were able to manage our vines to avoid concerns. The summer was quite warm and dry, with sporadic rains that were at the perfect time to refresh the vineyards. Overall, the harvest season was quite uneventful with perfect ripening for all of our varietals, producing a wine that is balanced and bold.
A blend of 50% Sangiovese, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot, 2% Alicante Bouchet, this is a wine produced for freshness and to showcase the vibrant nature of a Super Tuscan blend. Only 20% new French oak is used for 10 months to give an opportunity for the varieties to come together without an oaky profile.
93-94 points, James Suckling – “A tight and harmonious red with ultra-fine natural tannins and beautiful ripe fruit. Blue berry and black cherry character. Extremely long.”
