When we founded La Massa, one of our goals was to produce a wine that could rival the iconic Super Tuscan wines of this region. Giorgio Primo is the result of years of study of the particular terroir of each individual vineyard through which we have identified the best possible plots for the three grape varieties that make up the wine -- Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. This wine is my heart, my dreams, and a reflection of my personality. I have great reverence for and have been inspired by the great wines of Bordeaux, in particular their expression of terroir; with Giorgio Primo, I aspire to make a truly great wine that reflects the exceptional terroir here at La Massa.
The 2017 vintage is a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, and 5% Petit Verdot, hand-sorted both in the vineyard and the cellar and matured for 18 months in 80% new French oak barriques. Our flagship wine is one that will improve exponentially in the cellar for years to come.
96 Points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media – “The 2017 Giorgio Primo is fabulous. Inky, deep and pulsing with energy, the 2017 has so much to offer. Most surprisingly of all, it is quite reticent and closed, which is so unusual for this wine. Dark red/purplish berry fruit, leather, cedar, spice, tobacco and espresso add a good deal of aromatic intensity, with plenty of Cabernet Sauvignon savoriness. The 2017 is much less forthcoming on the palate, where it remains unyielding, at least today.”
