2013 marks our third year producing the Carla 6, our 100 percent Sangiovese wine named after my daughter. You may recall that we spent many years thoroughly studying our soils at Fattoria La Massa to identify the precise location where the Sangiovese grapes give their best expression. Due to the small production of this wine, it is not distributed in the U.S. and only available to our mailing list customers like you.
The 2013 Carla 6 is rich and silky. Here again the light rain in early September refreshed the grapes and allowed them to reach optimum ripeness for harvest on October 3rd. Like the Giorgio Primo, we use spontaneous fermentation and do periodic punch downs for extraction. The wines were aged in 30 percent new French oak barrels, providing some structure and aromatics without overpowering the nuances expressed by the Sangiovese.
"A very pretty red with a silky and lightly austere tannic texture. Medium body, firm tannins and a focused finish. Delicious. This is a focused and gorgeous wine. Drink or hold. 94 points." James Suckling
