Les Grands Muriers is a very different wine from our other Cornas, Les Eygats, as the Syrah comes from two very different parts of the vineyard. In addition to the grapes sourced from the granite/gore soils common to the area, this parcel also has deep pockets of clay and limestone with alluvial sediments. These dueling soils add layer upon layer of texture and striking minerality to the final wine that make Les Grands Muriers a very special style of Cornas. The grapes are grown in the same way as all of our Syrah vineyards, utilizing biodynamic viticulture to maintain the expressive nature of the variety. The grapes are hand-harvested and sorted before traditional fermentation of partially de-stemmed clusters. Two punchdowns occur daily to extract the intensity of flavor and texture that live in the skins with maceration taking approximately three weeks. The wine is aged in French oak for 12-14 months before bottling. This site reflects deep aromas of very ripe, almost jammy fruits with a palate of gripping tannins that will age boldly for many years in the cellar.

Press Notes:

91-93 Points, Jeb Dunnuck

“From a mix of granite and limestone soils, the 2018 Cornas Les Grands Mûriers is a plump, opulent effort that brings serious sex appeal in its blueberries, bloody meat, game, licorice, and graphite aromas and flavors. With full-bodied richness, a plush, rounded texture, and sweet tannins, it's going to drink nicely right out of the gate yet also cruise for 10-12 years.”
