The single vineyard plot of Malabrigo is one of the most distinctive sites in all of Ribera del Duero. The loam and sandy-clay soils, coupled with the extreme climatic conditions of the vineyard (very warm days and cold nights), create an exceptional terroir and contribution to the final wine. This 100% Tempranillo is hand-harvested from the incredibly old vines of this Castrillo del Duero site. Once in the winery, the grapes are hand-sorted and see 30 days of fermentation in French oak barrels and 18 months of barrel-aging before bottling. The wine is then cellared a minimum of 3 years before release. This is a wine that develops with incredible intensity and precision over time, with great cellaring potential for over 20+ years after release.

“The spicy 2016 Malabrigo was produced with grapes from north-facing vines at higher altitude and showcases the house style in a cooler year—fresh wines with good ripeness and generous oaking. It's 15% alcohol and reveals abundant toast, spice and smoke aromas and flavors. It's full-bodied and powerful, keeping the freshness. It was bottled in May 2019 after 18 months in barrel.”
