This wine comes from one of our top two vineyard sites – the monopole ‘Castel Ringberg’. Ringberg is the perfect site to grow Sauvignon Blanc as its natural amphitheater allows for even ripening and growth during the day, while the cool, mountain influence of the Dolomites captures the intense acidity and classic Alpine minerality of the Alto Adige.
For years, this has been considered one of Italy’s benchmark Sauvignon Blancs, defining the potential for international varieties at our high elevation and grown in the very distinctive soils of the area. The grapes are harvested by hand, with sorting done in the vineyard and in the cellar so only the very best Sauvignon grapes we produce go into this wine. A significant portion of the juice is fermented with extended yeast contact to create further complexity, while 15% is fermented in barrique. The wine is then assembled and bottled, with fantastic aging potential of up to 15 years.

Press Notes :
2019 vintage – 92 points, Wine Advocate – “Elena Walch flexes her white wine muscle to impressive results in this vintage. Offering enormous varietal purity and crispness, her 2019 Alto Adige Sauvignon Vigna Castel Ringberg is a bright and luminous wine with citrusy aromas that cede to tropical fruit, fresh basil, jasmine and almond blossom. Like most of the beautiful white wines that come from the Dolomites in the far north of Italy, there is a distinctive mineral note of crushed limestone or chalk as well. This is a 15,000-bottle production. Fruit comes from the Castel Ringberg vineyard just above the Caldaro Lake at a cool and breezy 400 meters above sea level.”– Monica Larner
