Grown exclusively in the Vigna Kastelaz site above Tramin, where the variety originated, at an altitude of 350 meters above sea level. Vines are planted on a very steep slope with narrow terraces, trained on the guyot trellising system at a density of 7,500 plants per hectare. The soils are a mixture of chalk and clay and the vineyard has been a classic Gewürztraminer site for generations.

Harvested by hand, the grapes are picked in two different sessions to maximize ripeness in each section of the vineyard. The grapes are pressed and slowly fermented at cold temperatures before resting on their lees for several months. After settling the wine is bottled, with a small parcel set aside to age an additional four years in the Schneeberg mine in complete darkness and optimal conditions. Drinking beautifully now, this wine has the further aging potential of up to 15 years.
