The thin, light topsoil in Wehlener Sonnenuhr is composed of broken and weathered shards of the bluest blue slate in the valley. This purity of soil is reflected in the delicate fruit and fine structure of the wines. Our vines here are over 130 years old.
Note the 2015 vintage has yet to be reviewed. 2014 - 94 points, Stephan Reinhardt, The Wine Advocate "Aged for two years on the full lees and at least another year in the bottle (the goal is two years), the 2014 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling GG Alte Reben "Réserve" shows a clear, fresh, slightly developed, very delicate and flinty nose of bright fruits and fine minerals. Full-bodied, intense and with good tannins, this is a well-structured, slightly austere Riesling that seems to be in the middle of nowhere right now. It's tightly woven, very mineral and enormously salty, revealing lush and concentrated fruit in the finish. It is full-bodied and complex yet fine and very elegant."
