This bottling is our flagship wine and reflects both the beauty and power that can be achieved in our vineyards. As with all of our wines, we focus on traditional farming and vinification practices. The Cuvée Resérvée is whole-bunch crushed and fermented to add structure and beautiful, herbaceous notes to the wine. It then ferments naturally for 10-14 days before maturing in old, large 50hl oak casks. This traditional approach yields the potential for long aging, which becomes even more amplified when bottled in large formats that enhance the slow, methodical development of the wine over years or decades in the cellar.
2019 was a vintage that produced very high-quality grapes – there just weren’t very many to be had. Due to intense heat spikes throughout the growing season, our main priority was focusing on our canopy and decreasing the chances of mildew. We worked in the vineyards to focus the energy of each vine on the very best clusters, creating powerful, aromatic berries that make this vintage bold, round and juicy, with incredible acidity and structure. This vintage has great potential for added development over time.
The 2019 vintage is not yet reviewed. From the latest release 2018:
95 points, Josh Raynolds, Vinous Media: “Brilliant ruby. Smoky, mineral-tinged aromas of raspberry, cherry preserves, garrigue and exotic spices show excellent clarity and acquire a gamy nuance as the wine opens up. At once rich and energetic in character, offering well-concentrated red berry, bitter cherry and spicecake flavors and a sweetening touch of candied lavender. Shows fine definition and finishes gently, spicy and impressively long, with repeating florality and steadily building tannins.”
