The inspiration for this distinctive 100% Aglianico comes from the poet and philosopher Pliny the Elder’s opus “Naturalist Historia.” This wine is the epic culmination of years of our team’s research and innovation. We took the learnings from our Radici project to create this wine as the pinnacle of expression of site, clonal selection and rootstock. Nauralis is sourced from a single vineyard, the Mirabella Eclano estate, which is the perfect vineyard site to create a wine reflective of the intensity and elegance that can be expressed by Aglianico.

The vineyard has several aspects, with the grapes for Naturalis being sourced from the south-west facing slope that is deep in sandy loam with traces of limestone, clay and volcanic matter. This complexity in the soils adds unique structure and many layers to the final wine. The vines on Mirabella Eclano are on average 50 years in age and the clusters are hand-harvested before being sorted in the vineyard and in the cellar. After a stainless steel fermentation, the wine is then transferred to French oak barriques for 24 months and aged in bottle for at least 30 months. We release this vintage to you 10 years after the harvest to show the wine still holds youth and vibrancy and has the aging potential for another 50 years.

Press Notes:

94 points, Robert Parker Wine Advocate – “Always a landmark on the panorama of Campania reds, the Mastroberardino 2015 Taurasi Naturalis Historia delivers depth and generous density with dark fruit, dried blackberry, spice and campfire ash. Indeed, the oak spice and the natural mineral nuances of this wine intersect to reveal a smoky, mahogany-like ensemble of aromas. This vintage also delivers some tart cherry aromas backed by black olive and grilled rosemary. You feel the tart bitterness of the fruit tannins. Keep this wine in your cellar for a few more years.” – Monica Larner
