This single-vineyard bottling was one of the first ‘cru’ wines of Brunello, dating back to the historic 1990 vintage. We have always known that this vineyard site was quite special and deserved to be featured and recognized for the beautiful expression of Sangiovese that is one of the more distinctive wines in the region. The Pianrosso vineyard produces fruit of incredible acidity, showcasing the heavy marl soils of medium grain. As we vinify this wine, the combination of freshness and intensity starts with a slow, long fermentation in both glass-lined concrete tanks and stainless-steel vats. Once fermentation is completed, the wine is aged for no less than 36 months in Slavonian oak barrels and then a minimum of 8 months in bottle. This wine, as with all of our bottlings, is only released when ready. Pianrosso is renowned for its long aging potential and continued development with proper cellaring.
Press Notes :
95 points, Wine Enthusiast – “This full-bodied red starts off with aromas of leather, forest floor and camphor. Enveloping and structured, the palate shows a weightless concentration, featuring dried cherry, licorice, tobacco and a hint of orange zest framed in velvety tannins. Drink 2024–2029.” – Kerin O’Keefe
