As a winery most known for producing Brunello, the 'Pianrosso' is a very unique bottling for this area as it is a single vineyard, single expression wine. It is produced only in the best vintages from a careful selection of grapes exclusively from our estate's core vineyard in Castelnuovo dell’Abate, and it is our most representative wine.
The wine is fermented in a combination of stainless steel and concrete vats to maintain the fresh fruit characteristics of Sangiovese. It is then aged in large Slavonian barrels for at least 36 months before bottling - released only at the most balanced time for the fruit and pronounced tannins. Compared to our Brunello Classico known for more fruit-forward notes, the 'Pianrosso' sees an extra year in oak, giving it a more spicy, bold, structured characteristic that is perfect for long aging. The 'Pianrosso' vineyard is also the base for our ‘Riserva Santa Caterina d’Oro,’ in those rare exceptional vintages in which it is produced
