2009 is a vintage that, in recent tastings, has been in a beautiful place of development. The beginning of the growing season was cool and wet, giving ample time for the vineyard to recover from the previous vintage. As flowering came early and the temperatures and heat continued through the summer, we saw record heat but our area in Barberino saw cooler nights than most areas, allowing the grapes to relax from the heat stresses. Our work in the vineyard to allow cover and avoid intense sun exposure gave way to very ripe, concentrated, but balanced grapes.
Keeping with the consistency in production of each vintage, 2009 was vinified in stainless steel for 22 days before being put into 500-liter French oak barrels for 20 months. As mentioned, this vintage has been aging in our cellars since bottling and is only being re-released exclusively for our U.S. mailing list.
93 Points, James Suckling: “A soulful combination of dried fruits and mushrooms on the nose and palate here. Full body, silky tannins and a juicy, rich finish. Firm and austere in a beautiful way. There's a real Chianti Classico character to this. Drink or hold.”
