Grape varieties: 50% Syrah, 25% Petit Verdot, 25% other red varieties
Castello del Terricio is a wine close to my heart -- a unique Syrah-based blend that I believe captures the essence of the Terriccio territory and therefore bears its name. I have always loved Syrah and in the 2000 vintage, with my long-time enologist and friend Carlo Ferrini, my dream to produce this wine finally became a reality.
Castello del Terriccio is a blend of Syrah and Petit Verdot with a 25% of other red varieties, and is aged 18-22 months in French tonneaux and barriques. The wine has rich balsamic, spice and violet aromas with dense, blackberry, blackcurrant and chocolate flavours on the palate with mint note. Silky tannins and a long finish make this a choice bottle for serious collectors.
“The estate's 2012 Castello del Terriccio is laced with the essence of lavender, mint, sage, tobacco, licorice and plum. Rich and sumptuous, but without being excessively heavy, the 2012 hits all the right notes. Powerful, virile and deep, the Castello delivers the goods. What a gorgeous wine it is.” - Antonio Galloni, 94 points
