This was a spectacular vintage across all of our vineyards – balanced of intensity and acidity, which makes for a vintage that can be enjoyed for decades to come. The conditions of the vintage were quite perfect for Nebbiolo as the growing season began. The spring was mild and we began with a beautiful fruit set heading into the summer. The summer temperatures were quite hot and dry, which created great stress in the vines. We focused on canopy management to ensure the clusters were not exposed greatly to sunscorch. Immediately before harvest, the vines were met with a refreshing rain, which came at the perfect time. This injected needed life into the vine to add brightness to the very concentrated clusters. This is a rich, bold vintage that should continue to develop in the cellar for many years to come.
95 points, Monica Larner, Robert Parker Wine Advocate - “There is a lot of fruit ripeness in the 2015 Barolo San Rocco, with blackberry, wild berry, plush softness, spice and licorice. The fruit is nicely balanced and shows bright intensity. Located in Serralunga d'Alba, San Rocco was purchased by Luigi Scavino's father in the 1990s. The vines are 65 years old today. Some 6,600 bottles of this vintage were made.”
