Our Classico Barolo is produced as a blend of our most prestigious vineyards in Barolo - Cannubi, Cannubi San Lorenzo, Fossati, Liste and San Pietro delle Viole. It is a wine that combines both the power of the soils of this area with the elegance and purity of Nebbiolo.
After iconic vintages in 2015 and 2016, 2017 was a very expressive vintage in the fruit components, with boldness and concentration, one that is intense in its youth with excellent potential for long cellaring. It was a growing season of very dry conditions and warm weather that gave our incredible vineyard team the ability to showcase their skills in growing Nebbiolo.
A long, dry harvest season allowed us to pick the grapes only when each Cru reached their optimal ripeness. The grapes were hand-harvested and fermented in concrete tanks for 12 days before a long, 20-day skin maceration to increase texture and structure. The wine has aged for 3 years in old Slavonian oak casks (4500L) before resting 6 months in bottle prior to release. This fermentation and aging process is the traditional "formula" used by ancient Barolo families for generations and results in our wines releasing to the market typically with an additional year of aging compared to other Barolo producers.
Press Notes :
2017 vintage not yet released nor reviewed. 2016 received 94 points from James Suckling – “Aromas of ripe strawberries with bark, cedar and hazelnuts. Some meaty undertones, too. Full-bodied with a tight palate, but opulent fruit oozes through at the end. Shows lots of promise for the straight-up Barolo. Try after 2023."
